Your refrigerator is what keeps all of your food cold enough so you can eat it without worrying about it not being held at the proper temperature and you or your family members becoming ill. If your refrigerator is not working properly though, your food may be questionable and you may need to toss out quite a bit of your food, which can be very expensive to have to replace. If your refrigerator is not cool enough, there are some troubleshooting tips to help you make the repair yourself, or at least get to the bottom of the issue. Read on for a few troubleshooting tips.

1. Check The Door Seal

Inspect the door seal for cracks or other damage. If the door seal is not in good shape, it may be allowing warmer air in your home to get into your refrigerator. In this case, your refrigerator is working properly, but the door is simply allowing the warmer air into the refrigerator. If you spot damage, or you think the door seal is not properly sealed, you can replace it with a new one fairly inexpensively. Simply remove the old door seal and install the new one in its place using the new screws to hold it into the door. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to install the door seal. Once finished, you can test the new seal by placing a piece of paper into the door, then shut the door with a portion of the paper sticking out. Attempt to pull out the paper. If you are unable to do so, the door is sealed properly. If you can easily slip it out, you still have an issue.

2. Remove Food

If your refrigerator is stuffed with food, the air will not flow properly throughout your refrigerator. It may also cause an issue with shutting the door at all, which could allow for warmer air to get inside. You need to remove some of the food or invest in a second refrigerator to store other necessary items.

3. Clean The Coils

The coils beneath or at the back of your refrigerator may be clogged with dust, dirt, and other debris which means it can no longer cool your refrigerator as it should. You should be cleaning these coils often to remove the dirt from them to ensure your refrigerator works properly. Pull out your refrigerator and clean behind it to help your appliance run properly.
